EPA & CARB Verification
Johnson Matthey has worked closely with both the
US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California
Air Resources Board (CARB) to verify JM products.
In fact, Johnson Matthey’s CRT®
technology was the first filter to be verified, by
the EPA and by CARB. Since then JM has been working
diligently to verify more technologies for a broader
variety of engines and applications.
The EPA recently
verified Johnson Matthey’s CCRT® filter
for more challenging and colder applications, as well as the DCC™ diesel oxidation catalyst. CARB has also extended JM's CRT® and CCRT® technology verifications.
In April 2005, Johnson Matthey's first NOx reduction technology was approved by CARB. In addition to a 40% NOx reduction, the EGRT® technology also reduces PM by over 85%.

JM CARB Verification Details
To streamline the verification process, in June 2004,
CARB and EPA signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Coordination of Diesel Retrofit Verification.
This MOA establishes reciprocity in verifications
of hardware or device-based retrofits and commits
CARB and EPA to work toward accepting particulate
matter (PM) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) verification
levels assigned by the other's verification programs.
In the near future CARB and EPA will provide further
guidance on how this agreement will be implemented.
